Medicare Advantage Providers
What is a Medicare Advantage Plan? These plans can be Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). Texas State Health Insurance has a handful of Medicare health plan choices available in many counties. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. These products give Texas State Health Insurance agents the opportunity to offer their San Antonio, Texas clients plans that are generally lower in price than Medicare Supplement coverage in exchange for cost sharing when they utilize medical services.
Medicare Supplement plans are products offered by private companies that cover the deductibles and coinsurance of Original Medicare. Texas State Health Insurance can assist San Antonio area clients with several “standardized” plan designs that are offered by companies, ranging from Plan A through Plan N. Medicare Supplement plans generally have a higher monthly premium than Medicare Advantage plans, but require less cost sharing for members when utilizing medical services.

Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) is one way Texas State Health Insurance Medicare recipients in the San Antonio area can obtain coverage for their prescriptions. These plans, which are offered by private companies, are built based upon the guidelines that are provided each year by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). While the basic structure is similar, the plans vary in terms of copay amounts and formulary. These plans are usually purchased by consumers enrolled in Medicare Supplement plans.
